HOLE 1

The Bokö Lighthouse

On older nautical charts, the Bokö Lighthouse was called “Julafton” (Christmas Eve). 150 years ago, a galeas shipwrecked at the lighthouse point on Christmas Eve, giving rise to its unique name. Built in 1867 as a combined lighthouse and residence, it was later upgraded with AGA lighting in 1941.

Skärborgarna

Fishing was Trosa’s primary industry until the early 1900s. The local fishing council was known as the Skärborgare. These were fishermen who, during the summer months, moved out to the outer archipelago with their families, livestock, and all their belongings. In the autumn, they returned home with their seasonal catch.

he Wetlands of Trosa – Nature Meets Sustainability

Trosa’s wetland area plays an important role in the wastewater purification process, helping to relieve Trosa River and the city bay from discharge. It’s also a lovely recreational area and a thriving habitat for local wildlife and plants.

Suckarnas bro och Kärleksstigen

Bron sägs ha fått sitt namn av de kvarlämnade kärleksparen som gick här och suckade när ångbåten på hösten åkte hem med sommargästerna. Promenadvägen ut till piren kallades Kärleksstigen.

Smörbyttan - The End of the World

At the far end of the harbor lies the stone pier known as Smörbyttan. Once you’ve reached this point, there’s only one way back – which is why it’s famously called The End of the World. Long ago, there was only one road leading into Trosa, giving rise to this legendary name.

The Osprey – Södermanland’s Provincial Bird

The osprey is a large bird of prey and a powerful fisherman, proudly representing Södermanland. With a wingspan of 152–167 cm and a weight of up to 2 kg, it’s a majestic sight often seen gliding over lakes and coastlines in search of fish.

Garvaregården -Historic Tannery – A Preserved Craft Heritage

This heritage-listed craft farm dates back to the 18th century and operated as a tannery until the early 1900s. Today, you can visit the City Museum, which features unique collections. The tanner’s home and workshop are also preserved on the site, offering a glimpse into Trosa’s artisanal past.

Tureholm Castle – A Historic Landmark by the Bay

Tureholm Castle sits on elevated ground near the Trosa Bay. Originally known as Gäddeholm, the estate dates back to the 14th century. It was burned down during the Russian raids in 1719, but ten years later, Thure Gabriel Bielke began its reconstruction—laying the foundation for the castle we see today.

Trosa’s Town Privileges and First Town Hall

Trosa was granted its town privileges in 1610 by King Karl IX. The city’s first town hall was built in 1711. Today, this historic building houses Trosa’s Tourist Office and Library.

Västerljung Church – A Medieval Landmark

Founded in the 12th century, Västerljung Church is the oldest in the region. During renovations in 1959, a runestone—the Västerljung Stone—was discovered embedded in the church wall. This massive 3-meter stone had once been used to reinforce the structure. Today, it can be viewed in the churchyard.

Trosa is known for its excellent golf courses, offering top-quality golfing experiences at several scenic locations throughout the area.

Vagnhärad Station house– A Historic Village with Royal Touches

Vagnhärad – A Historic Village with Royal Touches
Vagnhärad was first mentioned in 1350. Härad means “district” or “region.” According to legend, the name comes from the stagecoaches (vagnar) that changed horses here on their journey toward Stockholm. The old station building still houses a well-preserved Royal Waiting Room.

Hole 12

The Västerljung Gold Treasure – Also Known as the Tureholm Hoard

This remarkable collection of gold artifacts from the 6th century AD was discovered in Västerljung parish in 1774. Weighing an incredible 12 kg, it remains the largest gold treasure ever found in Sweden. Today, it can be admired at the Swedish History Museum in Stockholm.
